A Legacy Confirmed - Part 2

Writer's picture: Kent GallowayKent Galloway

In 2015, I first connected with Mark, a former Peace Corps volunteer who worked with Dr. Jerry Galloway in the Congo (formerly Zaire).

"I arrived in Kinshasa, Zaire, in 1976 as the Associate Peace Corps Director for Health. Jerry and another volunteer were working at a very remote hospital/nursing school in Kasai Oriental province (Kalenda). I remember that the Zairian doctor in charge and Jerry respectfully called each other "confrere," which means brotherly colleague or comrade.

I don't think I ever heard or knew of where Jerry went after his Peace Corps service, but I am not surprised that he wanted to return to Africa and help people there who have so little. He was obviously not a materialist and was a great humanitarian." – Mark Robbins (hospital in Kalenda - photo by Mary Kate Pung)
