Father Joe Giordano (former Promotion Director, CICM) shared this before he passed.
"What kept Brother Jerry going was his faith in Jesus Christ. His deep spiritual life showed itself in all he did as a missionary doctor. One of the gospel quotes he strongly believed in was, 'Whatever you do to the least of my brothers (and sisters) you do unto Me.' Indeed, he was living proof of Jesus' words.
Through his prolific correspondence with his mother during his years in the Congo, he was able to reach and inspire many people back in the USA and obtain many benefactors to support him in his work. Through these same letters, shared with many people in the States, he touched their lives through the example of his spiritual reflections and medical and missionary work." – Father Joe Giordano
