I met with the village elders to discuss the problems they faced. They told me that they did not have money for education, clothes, or books. Very few could afford to come to the clinic. They lamented that game and fish were becoming scarce, and the people did not eat as well as before. I asked them, "How do you plan to get more food and money?"
"We need to cut more fields to plant peanuts and rice and raise animals," they responded. "However, we do not have machetes, axes, seeds, or animals. We don't have money to buy any of those things." I said, "I will supply each extended family with five machetes and an ax, plus seed, to begin. I'll also try to get you some pigs and chickens to raise."
