A troubling episode concerning the "Moses" phenomenon occurred. A group of his "apostles" who lived in Pendjua went to the village blacksmith's home. They accused him of having fetishes to harm the people. They beat him, stripped his clothes off, stole his money, a machete, two large pots, and other items. Then they paraded him through the village. A small group of Christians came to his aid and took him to the hospital. They called me to the emergency room. He did not have any severe injuries, though the incident made me furious.
I went to the police chief and asked him why he did not arrest these criminals. There were 13 men involved, and four were sons of businessmen. The police chief replied that he was alone, as the other five policemen were in Kiri at a seminar. Later, the police chief, the village chief, and the sector chief came to see me. They asked me to send a message to the Kiri territory administrator to request ten police officers to arrest the criminals. I sent it, and the administrator sent me a reply and asked me to send the Toyota pickup to Kiri. The chauffeur left at noon. He returned the next day, and by noon all 13 were in jail.
The "apostles" carried "magic staffs" to protect themselves, and they told the people the police would not be able to touch them. Well, their magic staffs must have lost their magic. The officer asked me to provide transportation to take the five ringleaders to Kiri. It will be interesting to see what will happen with them. Everyone said that Moses would set them free.
