I discovered the Rituxan had a delayed side effect – it wiped out my taste buds. My sweet and sour taste buds only functioned a little. I could not tell the difference between the taste of different meats, bread, manioc, rice, and vegetables. It seemed strange to eat just to survive. I looked at it as a small price to pay for a few more years of life.
I rode along the path behind the school to the boarding homes. Next to the trail, there were large holes from where students dug clay to make bricks. On my way, I lost my balance and fell into a four-foot hole, landing on my right shoulder. My bike landed on top of me, and I could not climb out of the pit. Two students came by and helped me out. I had dirt in my ears, nose, and mouth. My right shoulder experienced a lot of pain, and I could barely move it. I cleaned myself up and returned to school to give my two English classes an exam. I could not lift my arm to write on the board, so the principal wrote out the questions.
