World Health Day!

Writer's picture: Kent GallowayKent Galloway

Today, April 7, 2023, is World Health Day. The World Health Organization (WHO) is observing its 75th birthday with the theme of Health For All.

In 1948, countries came together and founded WHO to promote health and serve the vulnerable so everyone can attain the highest health and well-being. The WHO is an international entity dedicated to health issues and is independent of any government. The WHO deals with public health and hygiene matters and provides medical relief globally to any nation in need.

World Health Day effectively raises awareness and educates us about worldwide health issues, diseases, and medical crises. The Friends of IMCK want to take this opportunity to share about the work of the Institut Médical Chrétien du Kasai (IMCK) in Tshikaji, Democratic Republic of Congo. Founded in 1954, IMCK – consisting of the Good Shepherd Hospital, PAX clinic, and nursing schools – provides vital services to the people in this region. Good Shepherd Hospital has a rating as one of the top hospitals in DR Congo. Please read more about the great work of IMCK at https://www.imck.org

In Congo, there is one doctor for every 10,000 people, compared to the US, with 27 doctors for every 10,000 people. We are grateful for all the tireless work of the medical staff at IMCK. Consider donating today in honor of a medical professional you are thankful for in your life or to support the medical team at IMCK. Please go to https://www.imck.org/donate to contribute to the Endowment Fund that supports IMCK.
