Yaya "Big Brothers" (1982)

Updated: Dec 17, 2019

Excerpt from draft of "Apostle to the Pygmies – The Doctor Jerry Galloway Story”

Luba and Bola agreed to become Yaya (Big Brothers) to the new prayer group of thirteen to fifteen-year-old boys. They continued to spend thirty minutes each day reflecting on the Gospel. They wrote their reflections in a notebook that they reviewed with me once a week. I did all my praying in Lingala and wrote my reflections in Lingala in a journal to share with Luba and Bola.

Once I began to pray in Lingala, my prayer life became more fruitful. The past couple of months, my prayer life had been dry and difficult and distracted. Maybe the Holy Spirit was preparing me for a change in prayer style by calling me to pray and share my reflections with my brothers in Lingala.
